Groupage - the consolidation of smaller consignments from various sources by a forwarder to form full con-tainer loads. (See also consolidation)

Gross Weight - Total weight of goods and packing

Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) - Applies to the total weight of a fully loaded vehicle including goods and the vehicles own weight (including fuel)

Haulage Charges - the revenue earned by a haulier for the carriage of goods.

Hauliers Liability Insurance - Insurance against loss or damage to goods entrusted to a haulier. Covers the hauliers contractual and legal liability under conditions of carriag

High Cube - trailer/container with high sides designed to carry high volume low weight goods. (See also Super cube)

House Bill of Lading/House Airwaybill - a transport document issued by forwarder rather than the owners of the carrying vessel usually to accommodate consolidated shipments.

House to House - Terms of carriage where the carrier accepts responsibility for carriage of the goods from the premises of the seller to those of the buyer.

Hub - the central transhipment point in a transport network, served by trunk transport and serving spokes.

In Bond - Dutiable goods warehoused under Customs & Excise control pending the deferred payment of duties.

Incoterms - A set of standardised contract terms drawn up by the International Chamber of Commerce.

Insulated Container - Insulated container used for the carriage of goods that should not be exposed to rapid or sudden changes in temperature. Can be ventilated or non-ventilated.

Intermodal - the transfer between and/or use of two forms of transport. (see multi-modal)

ISO Container - the international standard container size as defined by the International Standards Organisa-tion.

Isotank - A tank container which consists of a tank within a rigid frame conforming to the dimensions of a standard container slot, thus enabling the tank to be handled as a normal container. Used to carry wet chemicals, fuel etc...

Just In Time (JIT) - logistics management system that requires deliveries to arrive just as they are required by the customer to avoid stockholding.

King Pin - A "peg" situated at the front underside of a trailer which attaches the trailer to the tractor unit.

Landing Legs - the wind down legs fitted to the front of a semi-trailer to allow it to stand alone when detached from a tractor unit.
